If you know me you know I love to talk about God.
A lot.
Its my favorite subject and one of the most common questions that have came up in conversations is 'Why would God send a good person to Hell just because they don't believe in Him?'
It clearly states in the bible that the only way to God is through Jesus Christ.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:6
Yet that's not enough of an answer for a lot of people, because that 'good person' question still lingers.
I can answer that question as simply as this- on our own, we can never be good enough to make it into Heaven. We just can't, it doesn't matter how much good you've done in your life- you've still sinned also. 'For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.' - Romans 3:23
To have eternal life with God we have to be spotless. I have some bad news though- you can never achieve that on your own. Wait though; here comes the good news, Jesus did! He was the only perfect person to walk this earth- he died an unjust death to take our place, the ultimate sacrificial lamb so that by his blood we may be washed and deemed righteous in the eyes of God. We cannot earn salvation; It is NOT about what we have done, and thank God for that! Thank God that Jesus came and took my place in death, purifying me with His blood.
Even us church folk need to be reminded of this basic truth. So many times Christians will struggle and struggle to earn the salvation that was already given to them. They do good works so that God will approve of them and love them- this is false! We do good works because God loves us and because of that love we want to be holy like He is. It is no longer a burden, we want to obey Him out of joy.
'You and I and anyone and everyone who will ever be saved was saved by works- the works of Jesus.' ( Mark Driscoll)
We can not earn salvation; it is a gift.
We need to be saved because we cannot do it on our own.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16
It is finished.
